Name: A Roof Over Your Head

Description:

Our sculpture is surrealist in style and metaphorical for the feeling many of us shared in 2020. Stuck inside and looking out. Our title aims to encourage self reflection over what it means to be inside.

Team Bio:

Beez in the Schneez: Nick Langer (Minneapolis), Siera Himmerich (Minneapolis), and Logan Thomas (St. Paul) Siera: I began sculpting in highschool and later became a cake decorator to get through college. I also practiced as a sushi chef (surprisingly similar skill set to fondant sculpting!) for a year but eventually opted for the stability of an office job. I now get most of my sculpting energy out through sculpey and doing the snow sculpting event once a year. I also have recently dabbled in special effects makeup. I love to work with my hands any chance I get, and love to try new mediums! I am most interested in sculpting faces. Logan: My first real sculpting experience was at this very event in 2017. I’ve returned each year with my team to showcase our artistic abilities - even flying in from Montreal just for this competition two years in a row. I love the challenge of taking a large block of snow and transforming it into something remarkable. It’s a fantastic way to enjoy our wintery climate and appreciate the skills and talents of people - and always creates quality memories! Nick: Growing up my mom would always have art projects for us to do and I have always been interested particularly in 3D art. I did woodworking around highschool age and in college I learned glass blowing. My recent projects include wire work, a fish tank table, sewing masks, a flying flower vessel (Flugtag) and these snow sculptures the past 4 years.

Fun Fact:

We are a group of coworkers that do anything ridiculous or challenging when given the opportunity. This includes participating in the 2019 Red Bull FlugTag....Only one of us got a concussion.
